Policy on the use of artificial intelligence and technologies supporting it

The journal recognizes the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in academic research and publishing. This policy establishes clear guidelines for the acceptable and unacceptable use of such technologies in the preparation of manuscripts and defines requirements for disclosure.

The journal adheres to the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and international best practices in research integrity.

1. Acceptable Use of AI

Authors may use AI tools to support the preparation of manuscripts, provided that such use does not compromise the integrity, originality, and reliability of the research. Acceptable uses include:

  • language editing, grammar correction, and improving readability;
  • formatting references and structuring text;
  • assistance in data visualization (e.g., charts, graphs);
  • translation of text, provided the scientific meaning is preserved.

All content generated or modified using AI remains the full responsibility of the authors.

2. Unacceptable Use of AI

The following uses of AI are strictly prohibited:

  • generation of substantial parts of the manuscript (e.g., results, discussion, conclusions) without proper verification and intellectual contribution by the authors;
  • fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of research data using AI;
  • creation of fake citations, references, or sources;
  • use of AI to bypass plagiarism detection systems;
  • listing AI tools as authors or co-authors;
  • use of AI in peer review or editorial decision-making without authorization.

3. Disclosure Requirements

Authors must disclose any use of AI tools in the preparation of their manuscript. The disclosure should be included in a separate section titled “AI Usage Statement” or in the acknowledgements.

The disclosure must include:

  • the name of the AI tool used (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly, etc.);
  • a description of how the tool was used;
  • confirmation that the authors reviewed and take full responsibility for the content.

4. Responsibility and Accountability

AI tools cannot be considered authors, as they do not meet authorship criteria. Authors are fully responsible for:

  • the accuracy, validity, and originality of the content;
  • proper citation and attribution of sources;
  • compliance with ethical and legal standards.

5. Editorial and Review Process

Editors and reviewers must not upload manuscripts or any part thereof into AI tools or platforms that may compromise confidentiality, unless explicitly permitted by the journal.

The editorial board reserves the right to request additional information from authors regarding the use of AI tools and to reject manuscripts that violate this policy.

6. Compliance and Sanctions

Failure to comply with this policy may result in:

  • rejection of the manuscript;
  • retraction of the published article;
  • notification of the authors’ affiliated institutions;
  • restriction of future submissions to the journal.

7. Policy Updates

This policy may be updated periodically in response to developments in AI technologies and publishing standards.
